As if hiding behind a tropical hedge and palm trees, Torre Manaca-Iznaga rises up in the Valle de los Ingenious, or Cuba’s former Valley of the Sugar Mills.
This region in central Cuba is vast and verdant, and includes the old city of Trinidad, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tall, and seemingly beautiful, tower in the photograph is a lasting vestige of the late 18th century.
