Story Behind the Image
During a 1948 road-trip from Havana to Trinidad, Cuba, there were many stops on the 5-hour drive along the Carretera Central.
My father took dozens of photographs during their Engagement Trip, but only this image shows my young parents together.
They weren't traveling alone, of course.
My maternal grandparents — who had invited my parents on this visit to Trinidad — accompanied them to serve as travel guides, as well as the chaperons.
