From an original watercolor from 1950s Cuba, this piece is a vibrant landscape of soft tropical colors reflected in the water and sky.
Story Behind the Art
My aunt, or Tia Lydia, was an artist.
Before and after leaving Havana, Lydia painted scenes of the beautiful Cuban landscapes she remembered from road trips across the island in the 1940s and 1950s.
This watercolor is vibrant with the hues of western Cuba, near the Viñales Valley.
Rich greens, oranges and blues mix in luscious colors to form the palm trees, tropical plants and reflections in the water.
Mutted browns and dusty purples hint at the distant mountains.
