Rare vintage art from 1920s Havana, featuring elegant tennis players on a shaded lawn in stunning greens, oranges, and cream tones.
Story Behind the Art
Tennis anyone?
This art-deco design is set on a verdant court for lawn tennis, possibly at the elegant Vedado Tennis Club in Havana. It features one player in mid-swing while his opponent — a liberated woman — takes a pause.
Women played this new sport with enthusiasm and style, making it appear easy in spite of having to play tennis in long skirts and well-heeled shoes (pun intended!).
You’ll notice, in this rich composition, the pointillism techniques and detailed strokes of the artist’s pen that created a beautiful effect in the trees, hedges, and fashionable attire.
