Story Behind the Image

This unusual snapshot of Havana’s Plaza de la Catedral was taken as horse-drawn omnibuses and their drivers waited in the shade of the Spanish Colonial buildings.

You see the cathedral’s weathered baroque tower rising above cobblestone streets and can imagine the heat under the sun. It’s an ordinary morning: church bells mark the hour, carriages wait for passengers, and the city moves through its daily routines.
